Glass art is the latest iteration in my career journey. Creating glass art feels as if it is a culmination of the most delightful pieces of other types of work. Lots of color, detail, precision, always growing and evolving in response to curiosity, technology, science and more science and seeking patterns in disorganization (everyone needs a little chaos and complexity in their life!). The next step is to then use those pieces to construct or tell a story that yields pleasure and happiness in some form. There is always a narrative that goes with each piece of glass that I design and create; sometimes the trigger is quite obvious as in the storyscape pieces that are focused on memories, others not so much. One trigger to the creative process can be something as simple as my love and reaction to bright colors, i.e., the patience series'.
My glass journey brings all of those components together and the way forward then looks nothing like the scenes in my rearview mirror of life – every piece of glass visioned, sketched and then created is always something different and new and always will be, for the combined chemistry of glass, art work and applied heat does not offer exact duplication. Lastly, it is simply fun! The work included in claudiamcdonald.com presents selected elements of this journey. Some of the pieces I view as art, some as craft, all as joy in some way. If they speak to you, please do contact me, I would love to hear your thoughts. images from the studio aka 'my happy place'! |
